I’ll be honest: when I first spotted Essence on a crafting recipe in Infinity Nikki, I assumed I just needed to collect the material a few more times. So I went back to grooming Floofs, chasing Sockos, and plucking Sizzpollen for ages... only to get absolutely nothing. I was stuck. Then I realized Essence is not a random drop; it is locked behind a system I had been ignoring entirely: the Heart of Infinity.

If you have ever hit that same wall, let me walk you through exactly what changed for me.

The real gatekeeper: Heart of Infinity

Collecting materials in Infinity Nikki is straightforward until high-rarity outfits and quests start asking for Essence. The trick is that you cannot simply gather Essence by picking up items more carefully. You need to unlock the corresponding ability upgrade inside the Heart of Infinity.

There are four upgrade families, one for each collection skill:

  • 🐰 Animal Grooming – for things like Bunny Fluff Essence

  • 🎣 Fishing – applies to fish-based Essences

  • 🌸 Collecting – covers plant and ground materials like Sizzpollen Essence or Starlit Plum Essence

  • 🐞 Bug Catching – for insect-themed Essences

I kept puzzling over missing Essence until I found this: to get Bunny Fluff Essence, I needed the Animal Grooming node. To get Sizzpollen Essence or Starlit Plum Essence, I had to unlock the Collecting nodes instead.

So, let’s be real: if you are going for a specific Essence, open the Heart of Infinity and check which skill is tied to that material. That single step saved me a ton of wasted time.

Two upgrade thresholds you should know

The Essence system does not unlock everything at once. In my experience, it breaks into two main stages:

  1. First Essence upgrade – You will start getting Essence from Memorial Mountains and Florawish.

  2. Second Essence upgrade – Essence starts dropping from the Breezy Meadows area.

Also, note this carefully: only items of brown rarity or above can drop Essence. That means your grey and green filler materials will not suddenly start rewarding Essence, no matter how many you collect.

This distinction matters a lot if you are trying to optimize your farming route. I wasted several hours picking up low-rarity stuff hoping for Essence, and... nothing.

Insight is not just flavor text

Once you start unlocking Essence, you will also want to pay attention to Insight. I think of Insight as collection EXP for your skills. Each material you collect grants a different amount of Insight based on rarity, and there is a daily cap for Insight collection.

For manual farmers like me, that daily cap means you can finish your grind, then move on to other content. But if you have Vital Energy to spare, you can head to the Realm of Nourishment and trade materials plus Vital Energy for Insight.

Again, only items of brown rarity or higher can be swapped for Insight. So save your low-rarity flowers for other uses and feed the brown+ items to the Realm if you want to speed things up.

By the way, if you are hunting high-rarity materials like Sol Fruit and Maskwing, they share the same locations in the Wishing Woods. Pairing that route with the right Collecting upgrade makes Essence farming much smoother.

How I farm Essence efficiently in 2026

Here is the routine that finally worked for me:

  • Open the Heart of Infinity and unlock the exact skill node for the Essence I need.

  • Farm materials in Memorial Mountains, Florawish, or Breezy Meadows depending on my current upgrade tier.

  • Focus only on brown rarity or higher nodes.

  • Trade leftover high-rarity materials and Vital Energy at the Realm of Nourishment for Insight when I am feeling lazy.

You know the drill: unlock first, then farm, then trade the leftovers. Once I stopped expecting Essence from every bush and Floof, the whole thing clicked.

...

Now if you ask me, the hardest part is not the collecting itself; it is remembering which node belongs to which skill. But that is exactly why I now keep the Heart of Infinity open on my second screen.
